This is a question which we find ourselves being asked quite frequently - but also, unfortunately, it is one which is often quite difficult to answer. Why is that, exactly? you might ask.
Well, the truth is, every single person's body is different, which means that our experiences when using a dildo, our description of what being penetrated by one feels like, might not match up with yours or anyone else's. Especially when using a textured dildo, even the world's most expensive dildos won't provide the same level of pleasure as no two individuals will have the same experience.
However, we are fully committed to sharing as much of our dildo knowledge as possible with our amazing customers, so we have written this article in the hopes to at least convey a general sense of some of the things you might expect to feel while using a dildo.
In order to write this article, we had several Lovegasm staff members - including individuals of all sexes, sexualities and gender identities - answer a series of questions to help them describe in as much detail as possible what a dildo feels like to them.
And there are plenty of dildos that cater to the different needs and preferences of individuals. Size and shape matter greatly, and some of our staffers prefer subtle stimulations and less girth with the 1 inch dildo, 2 inch dildo or 4 inch dildo. One of ours even likes the corn dildo, designed for some serious sensations. Some others still look for more unique experiences and find animal dildos to be stimulating.
Toys with additional features such as the squirting dildo are a favorite, too, for their ability to provide a more realistic sexual experience by simulating ejaculation. If you think you have heard it all, a dildo that squirts is just at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the different types of dildos.
However, keep in mind that the information presented in this article is the opinions of various people, and may not necessarily be objective fact.
Your own dildo experience might be completely different. In addition, none of the Lovegasm staff members consulted for this article are doctors or medical professionals, so none of this should be taken as medically accurate advice.
Vaginal Penetration With a Dildo
In general, you may not notice any major differences between being penetrated vaginally with a penis and being penetrated vaginally with a dildo.
The two items are both roughly the same shape and, unless you are using an extra-large dildo, will often be quite similar in size - both length and girth - as well.
In addition, some materials, such as silicone, elastomer / "jelly", Cyber Skin, are often designed to resemble human flesh as closely as possible, taking into account factors such as elasticity, texture and temperature.
However, our female-identifying staff members did list a couple of key differences between a dick and a dildo:
- The dildo will remain hard and firm throughout penetration. It will not soften or become limp at any time. Some people reported enjoying this, while others said it was "extremely intense" for them and left them feeling like they wanted a break a few minutes in
-
The dildo will be harder and more rigid, even when made from a flesh-like material such as silicone, especially for a textured dildo. First-time dildo users might find this unaccustomed hardness to be a little painful.
It is for this reason that we recommend always using lots of lube when penetrating yourself with a dildo.
-
You will have to control the dildo. Of course, if you are using it together with your partner, they can get their hands involved and take over control for a little bit.
(Alternately, you can attach the dildo to a harness and enjoy a "hands-free" penetration session with the aid of your brand new strap-on) But, if you are using a dildo to masturbate, you will have to control its movements entirely.
Unlike a penis, a dildo is not connected to a brain, and cannot do things such as speed up, slow down, or search out your G-spot on its own.
- It is also easier to just choose from a variety with dildos: double dildo for mutual penetration, an inflatable dildo for those looking for a thick girth, an ejaculating dildo for an ultra-realistic experience, and a dragon dildo or a fantasy dildo to blow your mind and body. Size matters, too, be it a small dildo or a long dildo, and material is important: both glass dildo and silicone dildo offer distinct sensations.
-
Some dildos feature add-ons which will feel quite different from a penis. It may take your body some time to get used to these larger differences. For example, some textured dildos include ridges or ribbing, or shaped like an animal's penis. Others are curved in order to locate your most sensitive spots more easily.
Still others will have external bits - often called "rabbit ears" which can stroke your clitoris while you are thrusting into yourself. In general, every dildo is different - so don't feel ashamed if you need some time to get used to each new one.
If you're not sure that you love the texture of a brand new dildo, you can always wrap it in a condom to change things up.
One last important thing to keep in mind is this: you don't have to choose. Penetration with a dildo and penetration with a penis are two different experiences, even though they might share a lot of similarities.
It's okay to sometimes want your partner's throbbing hot cock deep inside you and other times to prefer the company of your dildo. After all, variety is the spice of life - and that applies to your erotic life, as well!
Ultimately, the great thing about dildos is that you have freedom to choose which size you like. Of course, they are not a replacement for a real penis, but why limit to the usual when you can explore more? If you want a fuller sensation, try a large dildo or an extra super thick dildo for a pleasurable stretch. For beginners, start your journey with a extra small dildo or the softest dildo you can find. Want a firmer stimulation? Choose the glass wand or the vaginal wand and you may even mix your sessions with temperature play.
Anal Penetration With a Dildo
One thing which we immediately noticed when trying to collect data about anal penetration was that a number of our male-identifying staffers had had a dildo up their ass before, but very few of them had also experienced the same thing with a penis.
So, there were less people available who had enough information to compare the two situations. And that's totally okay!
Many men of all sexual orientations enjoy being pegged with a dildo, but wouldn't be comfortable having a cock up their ass. (And, of course, there are also many men out there who are the opposite, and would prefer to keep things flesh and blood exclusive.)
There are also female pegging fans who start out with a toy up their ass after not having experienced anything entering that particular hole other than their own fingers.
If you are a person who's interested in pegging but don't have much experience with anal penetration, here is our valiant attempt to describe that unique, quite particular and downright amazing feeling.
-
You will probably experience stretching.
The anal sphincter muscle is extremely strong, leading to the asshole often being described as "tighter" when compared to the vagina. Even the narrower anal-focused dildos will probably give you somewhat of a stretching sensation throughout.
-
Use a lot of lube, otherwise you might feel an uncomfortable "stinging" or "tingling"
The anus does not naturally produce any lubrication of its own, so applying a lubricant will always be a necessity, no matter how many times you play around with your favorite dildo.
-
Your anus's natural instinct may be to "pull" or "tug" at the dildo.
This is normal, and it is also the reason why we tend to recommend choosing a dildo with a larger or flared base for anal penetration. Even if your sphincter is properly relaxed (which you can do by stretching it with you or your partner's fingers before getting started with penetration) it will be tempted to clench and grip, especially as you get closer to orgasm.
Don't worry! It's completely natural - and it's happened to all of us!
-
Longer dildos with a slightly curved shape will generally produce a more pleasurable sensation, especially for males.
The anus is often deeper than the vagina, and the male prostate is almost always buried further inside than the vaginal G-spot
In addition, the ass cheeks can sometimes get in the way, especially if you are masturbating with a dildo and don't have a partner present to helpfully spread them for you.
Aside from that, all of the differences discussed in the vaginal penetration section above still hold true when it comes to anal activity.
Dildos will be firmer, will stay hard throughout the entire experience, and must be controlled by you or your partner's hands (unless you are using a strap-on).
If you are new to anal masturbation with a dildo, we recommend choosing a position which makes it as easy as possible to keep a firm grip on the dildo throughout the experience.
Lying on your back on a soft, comfy surface with some pillows under your bottom is a classic option that always works!
One last thing that may come as a surprise to novices experiencing their first anal penetration is that there is a strong chance that achieving orgasm might feel a little bit different.
This is something which was described by almost all of our staff members who had ever been penetrated anally, whether with a dildo, a butt plug, a set of anal beads, or even another person's equipment.
Don't worry, though - it may feel different, but it's definitely not a bad sort of different. Just something new and unique which might surprise you a little bit the first couple of times you go through it.
We've taken the data collected from various Lovegasm staff members and used it to compile our best possible approximation of what an anal orgasm might feel like:
Rather than just staying centered in your genitals, your entire body will feel it. You'll shiver a bit and your legs, arms, even fingers and toes might shake
Physical reactions, such as curling your toes or bucking your hips, might be more extreme and pronounced than you are usually used to.
The orgasm itself will last longer - a full minute or perhaps even longer is totally normal when it comes to anal climaxes. Even if you're usually someone with a short refractory period, you will likely find yourself feeling jelly-legged and awash in pleasurable tingles for several minutes afterwards - we don't recommend immediately getting up and trying to move around.
The post-orgasm high is absolutely intense. Let yourself enjoy it!
You might experience a second, smaller - but still pleasurable - orgasm when the toy is removed from your ass, especially if it is pulled out quickly or at a time when you are not expecting it.
For men, your ejaculate itself might come out slightly differently than you are used to.
This will vary more widely from person to person. You might produce more, you might produce less, and you might not release any fluid at all the first few times - though you will still get all the pleasurable feelings and other physical reactions which come along with orgasm.
Whatever happens, just remember - it is normal, and your orgasms will likely "normalize" a bit after you've experienced a few anal play sessions and your body has gotten used to the new kind of stimulation.
In conclusion, although using a dildo might feel a little different from other forms of penetration you may have experienced, especially the first few times, overall it still feels erotic, orgasmic and downright amazing. And it's not always about the dildo—it's up to you how to get most out of the experience. Sprinkle a dash of kinkiness here and there and experiment with bondage play. Restrict yourself with wrist cuffs and bdsm thigh cuffs, have an open mouth gag for a challenge, and you might just discover new ways to spice up your sex life.
